Quilting 101

It is my recommendation as a novice pretending to be a pro quilter, that anyone attempting to make a quilt go take a beginners quilting class. So at least then you know all the proper terms and gadget names and you can sound like you sort of know what your doing. Or else you will end up like me, at the quilting store practically playing charades with the pro quilters who work there trying to explain to them what I am looking for. I can't imagine what they are thinking when I leave. Ha! Ha! I don't care! I think I can do anything without instruction. Well, I can actually, it just takes longer and is more frustrating! :)

Doesn't this look fun?
I have found through trial and error on Ryan's quilt that my Satin Stitching for the appliques end of looking much better when I use an embroidery hoop to hold my material tight. But my squares are too small or the applique's are too close to the edges so I have to first temporarily adhere it to some stabilizer fabric with spray on glue that washes out. Then I can't get the hoop under the presser foot so I have to take it off and on about a thousand times! After each square is stitched I have to cut away the stabilizer fabric from the back.
:) :) :)
Why do I choose to do Applique Quilts?
Because they are so cute!
But this all might explain why it took me nearly a year to finish Ryan's and his wasn't half as much applique! I vow not to take more than 2 months on Jena's!

Here is what happens when you have little Sara hands reaching up and pulling your fabric while you're sewing. Gives the quilt character right?

Sara also helped me take this blurry picture, she is so helpful!
